New Contacts to the Market!

Two new contacts were recently launched in the US.  Vistakon's Acuvue Advance Plus (spherical) and Bausch and Lomb's Purevision 2 HD.

I have yet to get my hands on the Acuvue Advance Plus, but it is recieving some positive reviews.  It is going to be positioned as Acuvue's Mid level lens.  Those of you that wear an Oasys contact will want to stay with an Oasys.

Bausch and Lomb is officially launching it Purevision 2 HD contact lens and the beginning of next year, but it is available at some offices already.  It is a really nice lens that has reworked optics (hence the "HD") and is probably the clearest contact that I have ever personally worn.  Big surprise as this is my profession, I have worn a lot of different types of lenses over the years.  The redesigned lens is still easy to handle and, for me at least, is better at retaining moisture throughout the entire day.   I am excited to fit patients with this lens and get feed back from them.

Now we are up and running.....

My goal for this blog is simple.  I want to provide a laid back environment to seek out, introduce, discuss, and promote some of the technological advancement in vision care.  Mainly, I will try to discuss contact lenses (lens advancement, care products, etc) eyeglasses frames and lenses.

Lastly, I will also discuss dry eye syndrome.  I see several patients every week who feel that they need glasses, when in reality they only need to manage their dry eye symptoms.  Those of us that wear contacts and
eyeglasses, like me, can often benefit visually by learning about and addressing the symptoms of dry eye. Think of it like this, dry eye = burning, scratching, aching eyes with variable vision.  NO dry eye = happy clear vision all of the time! I'll try to write every week to address some of the new items on the market to both Eyecare Professionals and the public.  This is a great profession to be in as vision care is constantly being enhanceds with new technology and ideas for your and my benefit.
